Great 2024 of Community Service: Bernhard Law Firm Volunteering with Uplift Literacy

As we approach the end of 2024, Bernhard Law Firm thanks Uplift Literacy for the rewarding experience of weekly volunteering with great people, teachers, and kids in Miami. Uplift Literacy is an outstanding nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children in underserved communities develop the crucial literacy skills they need to succeed. This year, Bernhard Law Firm had the privilege of working through Uplift Literacy, contributing our time and skills to help empower young minds and make a lasting impact in the community.

Why Uplift Literacy Matters

At Uplift Literacy, the mission is clear: to ensure every child can read proficiently by the end of third grade. This goal is based on decades of research that show children who are not reading at grade level by third grade are at a significantly higher risk of struggling academically and falling behind in school. For many children in low-income areas, access to resources such as books, tutoring, and individualized support is limited. Uplift Literacy works tirelessly to bridge this gap by bringing literacy programs directly to schools in underserved communities, helping students build the skills and confidence they need to thrive.

Bernhard Law Firm’s Weekly Commitment to Volunteering

In 2024, Bernhard Law Firm committed to volunteering on a weekly basis with Uplift Literacy, spending mornings in local elementary schools where the need for educational support is most critical. Each session involved working closely with small groups of children, assisting them with reading comprehension, phonics, and vocabulary building. It was an incredibly fulfilling experience to witness firsthand the progress the students made as they gained confidence in their ability to read.

One of the most impactful aspects of volunteering with Uplift Literacy was seeing how small, consistent efforts could yield big results. Whether it was reading aloud with a child, helping them sound out words, or providing personalized encouragement, it became clear that a few hours of our time could make a significant difference in a young person’s academic trajectory. For some students, this support was the boost they needed to begin reading on their own. For others, it provided the additional help they needed to catch up with their peers.

Grateful to the Miami Schools, Teachers, and Uplift Group

We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be a part of Uplift Literacy’s mission. By working together with local educators and community members, Uplift is creating a positive and supportive environment that reinforces the idea that reading is not just a skill but a pathway to opportunity.
